Uttarakhand Traditional Ethnic Wear Rangwali Pichoda
Uttarakhand is famous for its natural beauty and traditional culture, Pichora is one of them. This is a traditional outfit worn by women at ceremonies in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Pichoda is similar like dupatta, yellowish orange in colour with red/brown or maroon polka dots. Due to its colour, it is also called Rangwali Pichora or Rangoli Pichoda. In the center, a ‘Swastik’ is drawn and in the four quadrants of the ‘Swastik’, ‘Sun’, ‘Shankh'( Conch Shell), A Bell with Om and Goddesses” are drawn. The ‘Swastik’ is made by drawing some geometrical shapes or leaves and flowers and then are surrounded by small dots. Then large circles or dots are printed all over the fabric surrounded by beautiful borders.
We can call pichora is the trademark for uttarakhand tradition or culture. One of such similarities is the traditional attire of Uttarakhand better known as Pichora. It is one of the most celebrated and cherished cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. There are minute variants in Garhwali pichora and Kumaoni pichora. But at the end of the day what matters is the tradition and the happiness that follows it. Kumaoni Pichora has an age-old heritage of bringing the much-appreciated smiles to various women adorned by it.
